Protranz Slide Rail
JOB DETAILS
Installing a base and Pump Station for upgrades to services at the Christchurch Hospital.
THE CHALLENGE
The Christchurch Hospital is located next to the Avon river therefore the ground water level is very shallow. With multiple buildings surrounding the location up to 1m from the edge of the excavation needed and very limited room to work with a more positive pressure shoring solution was needed. The excavation required was 3m x 3m x 4m deep section to install a base and a pump station. Due to the nature of this excavation and the multiple hazards for the surrounding buildings the client required a temporary works design tailored to this excavation.
THE SOLUTION
We offered our Double reinforced Slide Rail shoring option with a temporary works design suited to this project. Our team of engineers at Mabey Head Office looked at all the relevant documentation such as geotechnical reports, ground pressure loadings from the buildings and excavation equipment and determined that this option is best suited for this installation of the pump station. Sheet piling was considered for this excavation however the proximity to the nearest building being about 1m away the vibrations would have exceeded the maximum allowed. Another benefit of the slide rail shoring is that it is much faster and more cost effective to install and remove.
