Challenge
The Anchorage is described as an address of distinction, combining the privacy and tranquillity of waterfront living with bridge-free ocean access. It’s a resort-style waterfront community with sweeping water views. Our customer, Stokes Wheeler, is the primary contractor for the development that includes six residential apartment towers and four townhouse dwellings.
Stokes Wheeler required Mabey’s assistance to install a sheet and frame solution to support the excavation and construction of a bio basin (stormwater catchment). The sandy earth and ground conditions, typical of Gold Coast suburbs, along with the proximity to existing road and on site services made this a particularly complex excavation. After the bio basin was successfully constructed, Mabey’s involvement in the project was extended to include a similar sheet and frame solution for a lift base and roundabout that were also threatening to collapse.
Solution
Mabey designed and delivered a tailor-made sheet and frame solution for Stokes Wheeler. We assisted with the installation, and then removed the solution when it was no longer required.
Result
With Mabey’s engineering and customer support, Stokes Wheeler successfully completed the construction of a bio basin. We then worked together on temporary shoring for the lift base and basement of Tower 3.
Due to Mabey’s quick response and efficient service, Stokes Wheeler made significant financial and time savings compared with the cost or project duration had they worked with another service provider. With a week spent developing designs, a day planning the logistics, and only two days installation for the bio basin and four days installation for the lift base and basement shoring, Mabey saved the customer more than six weeks on their project delivery. Importantly, the work was also completed without incident.
Through Mabey’s service, Stokes Wheeler have now developed new excavation capabilities and deepened their confidence, strongly positioning them to undertake more excavation work into the future.
